”Let me set the scene for you. We drive through luscious Sri Lankan paddy fields and are welcomed at the Thambiliwatte gate by a farmerette Bani Chandrasena. After the initial tour which screams all things local & sustainable, in true Sri Lankan tradition food becomes the focal point. We are sat under the Cashew tree and the farm hands bring out the food that has been cooked on a cheerful fire hearth in pots that have been loved for generations. And beautifully the banquet comes together We are treated to entrees of green mango and jumbu pickles, pineapple achchaaru and nuts a plenty. We drink thambili water in clay cups. The meal is served on locally fired clay plates lined with banana leaves freshly picked from banana trees on the farm! What a spread for lunch at Thambiliwatte. Casava leaves pounded and stirfried, mango curry pol sambol 2 ways; one with garlic and karapincha and the other had Bombili (salt dry fish) added, okra and Banana Blossom curry and no dish is complete without papadum with fried karapincha with TbW suwandal rice. Desert was homegrown watermelon.
